“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls… others build windmills.”

For me, this sums up perfecting the challenge and opportunity of industry 4. The rapid advances in technology currently sweeping, ‘storm-like’, through our warehouses and factories; the temptation to hunker down in the face of such disruption; and the opportunities for those of us brave enough to turn towards and harness these powerful new forces.

As technology becomes cheaper, and more readily available, the possibilities for improving processes and making efficiencies keep growing in number.

Analysis Paralysis is real - where should you even start? A simple improvement to automate quality control can quickly lead to bigger questions about your logistics processes, staffing numbers or your whole data handling system.

But industry 4 is reinventing how manufacturers work, if they’re brave enough.

More than 60% of activities in transport, logistics and manufacturing have the potential to be automated. That’s why we’ve reinvented Bytronic - to help forward-thinking businesses take full advantage of vision to transform their production.

We’ve brought together more than 50 years of engineering expertise to educate, excite and inspire our customers as we navigate through the fourth industrial revolution together.

In this month’s Vision Update we explore the latest advancements in deep learning software and empty tote inspection as well as all the latest news from Bytronic HQ including our new barcode reader training courses.

Thanks for reading - let me know how you’re approaching the Industry 4 challenge.

Empty tote inspection - increase efficiency and accuracy with deep learning

Industry 4.0 vision systems can now be utilised to automate the inspection of totes. The application of deep learning allows camera systems to learn and recognise the difference between full and empty totes. Vision systems can inspect the inside of totes and then divert empty totes to designated areas so they can be refilled for new orders on the warehouse or manufacturing floor.

Why is the deployment of Industry 4.0 Vision still lagging behind?

Did you see The Manufacturer's 2021 Digital Transformation report?

The report highlights vision as being one of the top technologies that manufacturers are using to meet their goals, but it still seemingly ranks low for deployment. Why?

We discuss the barriers to implementing vision automation technology in this blog.
